New Testament Ninety Day Reading Plan

Greetings my Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

According to a 2005 Barna research survey most Christians consider themselves average or above average at “maintaining healthy relationships” and at “serving other people.” The areas that this same group felt they fell short in were “Biblical knowledge” and “sharing their faith.”   I find it interesting that people often use “Biblical knowledge” for an excuse for not sharing their faith. We often hear phrases similar to, “I don’t know enough to witness to someone” or “What if they ask me a question and I don’t know the answer?”. I have never understood why studying scripture is so hard. I can read a woodworking magazine, or a how to book, but to set down and read scripture is not an easy task. Many times over the years, I have embarked on an attempt to read the Bible from beginning to end. It usually doesn’t take long before my plan goes by the wayside. Statistics show that most people professing faith in Jesus have never completely read their Bible. “Many people start reading the Bible, but then become overwhelmed by the number of chapters (1,189) and verses (31,102) there are.” What we need to understand is the Bible is different from other books, the Bible should be read like running a marathon and not a sprint. We need to take it a chapter or two a day and savor what we read. I found some Tips on Reading the Bible Daily on the Internet and I want to share them with you:

1. Start reading the Bible today -- there is no better time, and there's no reason to wait.

2. Set aside a specific time each day. Set your schedule and then stick to it. Mornings are great, but feel free to use anytime that works consistently for you.

3. Read the Bible for the sake of learning, not simply to accomplish your next reading. Say a short prayer to God before you begin, asking the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom and understanding, then be refreshed by the words you read!* If you follow the schedule, you will complete the New Testament in ninety days.  Don’t worry if you miss a day or two along the way, just continue on and finish when you can, God will bless you through it. God’s Word when read and applied to our lives molds and shapes us into the image of Christ. Will you join us in this journey?

Grace,  Pastor Bob
